Review: Sigma Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki Brush (F80)

Hey, hey! I received this brush from Sigma months ago when I signed up as a Sigma affiliate and joined their incentive program. I've read lots of good reviews about Sigma brushes and I was so excited to finally get my hands on one of their brushes.

It's the famous F80 brush that everyone is raving about!

Product info (from Sigma): The F80 Flat Top Kabuki brush is perfect for applying and blending liquid, cream, and powder products onto the skin. The flat surface allows perfect buffing with flawless results. Synthetic Sigmax HD filament.

This brush is part of their Sigmax synthetic face kit.

Info (from Sigma): The Synthetic Face Kit contains three face brushes for high definition, flawless makeup application. The brushes in this collection feature exclusive synthetic filament, specially designed to apply powder and liquid products without absorption into the fibers. The shape, density and height of the filaments were carefully engineered to perfectly buff products onto the skin, resulting in a high definition effect.

There are three brushes in this kit, one being the F80 and the other two are the F82 (round top kabuki) and the F84 (angled top kabuki).

*Update: There are now four brushes in this kit. Click *here* for more details.*

I waited for a month for this brush to arrive from the US. If you live in QC like me, international shipping usually takes a month and you'd have to pick up the package from the post office and pay a 40-PhP fee. Anyway, the brush arrived at the post office in perfect condition.

Bubble cushion, cute red pouch and all that. It also came with its own brush guard which stuck as if it were superglued to the brush. No kidding! I had to insert a pencil down the brush guard just to loosen it up.

So here's what the brush looks like.

This brush is really soft! Really. I look forward to applying my foundation with this brush every morning. Seriously :)

Before I got this brush, I only used my fingers (clean, of course) to apply BB cream/liquid foundation and my Marionnaud N30 brush to apply powder products. I don't use foundation brushes. Anyway, the first time I tried this brush, I used my San San Soleil matte foundation. I've posted a review of that foundation already and I said in that post that the foundation, being matte and all, is drier and thicker in consistency compared to other foundations. I used to have a hard time blending it onto my face using my fingers. When I tried to use the F80, I was like... "Wow." Effortless. It's as if I were just slapping on a light foundation or something. I really noticed a difference in the finish, too. This brush gave me a smooth and flawless finish that I don't usually get just by using my fingers. No streaks, too :)

I like that the brush is dense enough and has a flat top, perfect for buffing foundation onto the skin. I haven't used this to apply powder products yet, though.

I didn't wanna use it at first because I didn't want to stain the white part of the bristles. I spot clean this brush after every use to avoid severe staining. Yeah, I'm OC like that :P

Thumbs up:
  • Really soft <3
  • Dense enough to buff foundation onto the skin
  • No streaks, gives a smooth finish
  • No bleeding and shedding
  • No weird smell
  • Comes with a brush guard
  • Name/label of the brush is written on the handle

Thumbs not-so-up:
  • Brush guard was super hard to remove at first
  • Staining is obvious since the top part of the bristles are white
  • Priced at ~P680 which I find a bit expensive
  • Shipping to my area takes a month

I LOVE THIS BRUSH. Now I can't wait to get the Sigma Miss Taylor Kabuki that I won from a giveaway. Woot!

I hope you find this review helpful. I know there are already hundreds of reviews of this brush out there but I just wanted to share my thoughts with you.
